The SM&CR Opportunity: SAP and NTT DATA partnership to support UK financial services organisations in meeting the needs of the FCA’s regulatory demands

The SM&CR Opportunity

The financial services industry continues to grapple with multiple pressures from new entrants, new technologies and new customer expectations. Post the financial crisis and continuous media attention on scandals and risks (PPI, Fraud and Financial Crime), the UK regulator (FCA) is leading the agenda for a cultural change with enhanced embedded individual accountability. With the deadline knocking, UK banks and insurers are finalising their plans to meet FCA’s expectation on Senior Manager and Certification Regime (SM&CR).

  • Is it just another regulation that FS organisations need to comply with?
  • With added controls, will it stifle employees ability to act or will it drive behavioural change and enhance personal accountability?
  • Will banks and insurers use this as an opportunity to drive transformational cultural change or will it be an annual check list for the regulator?

Many such questions and more are actively being considered, as organisations dip into their change budgets to meet FCA’s regulatory demands.

Future outcome is unknown and only time will tell. However today, it is important that all aspects, all perspectives and all options are carefully explored.

Our proposition focusses

SAP and NTT DATA have joined forces to help financial services organisations on the SM&CR agenda. Intelligent technologies and smart execution will be key. Our proposition focusses on:

  • 'Making compliance simple' for employees and managers so they focus on business growth and not just regulatory compliance
  • Empowering executives with 'smart reporting' to stay compliant
  • Managing impacts of the regulation on regulation on 'employee experience'
  • Encourage employee 'self compliance'

Join Our Discussion

Join us as our experts discuss operational opportunities and challenges of implementing SM&CR. While we do not represent a legal view on the regulation, our experience will bring to light perspectives on how Financial Services organisations could exploit the SM&CR agenda to drive long lasting, organisation wide cultural transformation.
