NTT DATA, a leading IT services provider, announced that it has been shortlisted in the Data and Insight category at the BT Sport Industry Awards 2019 for its work delivering an iconic, “never before seen” data experience at The Open Golf Championship 2018.
At the 2018 event, hosted at Carnoustie, NTT DATA UK demonstrated two ‘world-first’ installations, using analytics, data and digital technology to transform the spectator experience for fans and VIP guests alike.
The first installation centred on the NTT DATA ‘Wall’, a 105m2 LED screen that provides a focal point for spectators at the heart of The Open. NTT DATA UK used the Wall to bring live tournament data to life through stunning 3D graphics – for the first time fully synchronised to the TV broadcast.
In another world-first, NTT DATA UK embedded microphones and facial recognition cameras to anonymously capture spectators’ emotional reactions to the TV broadcast. This data was analysed by NTT DATA UK’s semantic engine to identify ‘emotional’ highlights - privately showcased to NTT DATA UK’s corporate guests.

Winners of the BT Sport Industry Awards 2019 will be announced on Thursday April 25th.
