NTT DATA UK Celebrating Cultural Diversity

Interactions with diverse cultures have become a routine part of our day, especially when working in a Global Company.

“Cultural Diversity means bringing the full mix of people into the conversation”, said Tim Bardell, Head of Consulting at NTT DATA UK. As a recognised leader for innovation and global technology services with its roots in Japan, NTT DATA leverages on its global workforce with diverse values and perceptions to bring new angles to the challenges we and our clients are facing today.

The NTT DATA UK Cultural Diversity Forum is a small committee of 9 employees, which was formed in August 2017, with the specific aim to embrace the cultures that surround us on a daily basis at the office. We recognise the importance of remaining inquisitive and make the effort to learn about each other’s cultures to ensure everyone in the organisation feels engaged and included.

“The best way to learn is to celebrate it”, said Simon Williams, CEO of NTT DATA UK. In the past, we have celebrated cultural events our employees identify with, whether it is Diwali, Lunar New year or South Africa Freedom Day. It is a delightful moment for us to learn about the history and cultural traditions of our employees, in order to better understand the heritage, they strongly value today. This also leads to teams working more effectively together. Working in a multicultural environment is more fun, as the sense of unity becomes stronger than diversity.

The Cultural Diversity Forum at NTT DATA UK has an exciting agenda for the future focusing on new methods to celebrate the richness of our diversity and encouraging all employees to understand the different ways or working and communicating. We will continue to celebrate important cultural events from countries all over the world, including Japan, France, Italy, India, South Africa, and let’s not forget, the UK!

How do you celebrate Cultural Diversity in your organisation? In light of National Inclusion Week, we would love to hear your ideas!
