Seize the initiative to avoid the war

Recently we hosted an exciting event in which we heard from industry experts on the drive to improve the security and resilience of the UK’s public telecoms networks and services - and the practical challenges being created.

Only eight years ago leading government figures welcomed Huawei investment in the UK.  Yet, by the end of this year the UK will have one of world’s toughest telecoms security regimes and be well down the path of removing high-risk vendors from its infrastructure. The new Telecom Security Bill clearly is not just about new technical controls; it is about a fundamental mindset change that impacts government, regulators, operators and supply chains.

What has caused this shift? How can 20 years of equipment manufacturer consolidation, operations outsourcing and first-to-market commercialism be rebalanced in the face of rapidly growing cyber threats? A first factor in achieving this transformation is leadership and early, effective executive decision making.

Setting the tone for the roundtable is General Lord Dannatt gave a keynote speech on leadership and decision making in Security. We then opened our panel discussion for leading industry experts to offer unique, invaluable insights into the practicalities 5G era/critical infrastructure cyber transformation.

The recent Colonial Pipeline cyber-attack surely makes anyone interested in the critical infrastructure field sit on the edge of their seat. Then why not move a little closer to the edge of your seat and re-visit this engaging roundtable which included insightful thoughts from Retired Head of the British Army, General Lord Dannatt, Cisco’s Nations Cybersecurity Advisor, Mark Jackson and Head of Public Policy from Virgin Media O2, Chris Adams.
