We were joined in conversation with Chris Jones, who joins NTT DATA as Vice President and Client Partner within the Public Services business.
Chris, welcome. Why don’t you start by telling us about your role?
I am accountable for a portfolio of Central Government clients as well working with the team to enable growth. I’m really excited to join NTT DATA UK and look forward to driving our 2019 plans.
We look forward to hearing more as the plans develop…Why did you choose to join NTT DATA UK?
I was impressed by the entrepreneurial spirit of the UK organisation, combined with the scale of the parent company; I think this model is unique in the marketplace. I was excited that the UK is a key growth area for NTT DATA; and that we are making a significant investment in the UK this financial year alone.
The organisation culture also really appealed. This is best articulated through our Japanese heritage which manifests itself as innovation, quality and long-term relationships built on trust. It’s also about our values which NTT DATA UK lives by; Clients First, Foresight and Teamwork.
Finally, it was also clear that our Leadership team has a clear vision of how to maintain our significant growth. In our mid-term plan, NTT DATA UK CEO Simon Williams spoke about how our long-term commitment and dedication to delivering value to clients is one of our differentiators; and I really wanted to be part of this journey.
What can we bring to the Public Services market?
Our approach is tailored to address the challenges facing UK Government; continuing to improve citizen services, better exploitation and sharing of data, maximising the value from legacy technology, achieving efficiencies and of course preparing for a post-Brexit world. We have an abundance of real examples of where we have embraced these challenges and transformed services for our clients.
The Public Services market is also demanding much more dynamic, agile and modern skills where value is released quickly. Our organisation has been built on digital skills so we are very well placed to respond to this demand through our Digital Focus Areas. These areas cover Customer Experience, IoT, Intelligent Automation, Optimise IT, Cyber and Data & Intelligence; these are highly-skilled teams will deliver real business value for Public Services.
Finally, through your first few weeks at NTT DATA UK, what exciting things have you learnt?
I’ve learnt that ‘Trusted Global Innovator’ isn’t just a strapline with $2.1bn annual investment going into global R&D. I’m still surprised everyday by what we do. NTT DATA UK has collaborated with Great Ormond Street, works with ‘Team Brit’ to support ex-Forces personnel to compete in motorsport racing, and has applied Fintech innovation at the Bank of England. These are just some examples of the exciting projects we work on…And this is just the beginning!
