NTT DATA UK announces its support of the UK government’s free trade agreement discussions with Japan

London UK, 9 June 2020 – NTT DATA, a world leader in consulting and IT services, today announced it supports the creation of the free trade agreement between Japan and the UK and is ready to assist the UK government. The negotiations will form an important part of post-Brexit trade planning and NTT DATA UK will be helping to secure a successful future for the UK tech-services industry.

NTT DATA has a long-standing presence in the UK dating back 30 years. We recently announced a £68 million investment into the UK to accelerate technology innovation and expand our geographic presence in the country.

NTT DATA UK is committed to providing the highest quality services to our clients and this free trade agreement will enable us to fulfil that commitment. Ensuring the continued free flow of ideas and innovation between Japan and the UK through data mobility provisions will allow us to work in partnership with Japan and best leverage NTT DATA’s Japanese R&D.

Simon Williams, CEO of NTT DATA UK commented on the news: “NTT DATA has a long-standing presence in the UK dating back 30 years. Last year we announced a £68 million investment into the UK operations with a new London innovation centre and geographical expansion into Birmingham and Edinburgh. As a Japanese headquartered business, we welcome the stability a free trade agreement will bring and believe it further strengthens our UK-Japanese bi-lateral ties.

“The data mobility elements of the free trade agreement discussions are of particular importance as they will provide for the free flow of ideas and innovation between Japan and UK. This ensures we are able to best utilise NTT DATA’s R&D efforts in Japan for our work with UK industries.

“Leveraging our combined R&D will accelerate the development of cutting-edge technologies in areas such as artificial intelligence and health technology, securing the position of both nations as global technology leaders.”
